Aviva chief Moss admits to affair at work

Aviva chief executive Andrew Moss has admitted to having an affair with Deirdre Galvin, the wife of the head of human resources.

Moss, 51, who is married with four children has admitted to having an affair with Galvin, 45, a member of staff who was seconded to work directly for him.

Galvin is married to Aviva head of human resources for Europe, Andrew Moffat but has reverted to her maiden name.

Galvin was head of human resources for Aviva Investors.

The insurer has a policy forbidding long-term relationships between colleagues who report to one another.

Galvin did not report directly to her husband in her HR role.

She has now left the company by mutual agreement in order to avoid potential conflict.

Moss has now left his wife and Galvin and Moss are now a couple.

Reports say Moss informed Aviva chairman Lord Sharman when the relationship became serious.

Sharman has defended Moss, stating that he has been open about the affair, that there has been no breach of company rules and that it has in no way impacted his role as chief executive.

Separately, the insurer has appointed Patrick Regan as chief financial officer. He joins in February 2010 and will become a member of the group board.

Patrick is currently group chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Willis Group, the global insurance broker.

  • Provided they didn't get up to any shenanigans actually in the office, as did John Major and John Prescot, then who cares?

  • It is not the interpretation I would normally put on it but I suppose it does meet the definition of Human Resource!
