Commercial unraveller

Commercial I have a riposte for Alan Lakey (Letters, February 25).

Although what you say may be true, I wonder if it should even be a concern of someone in business. Your letter looked more like a political manifesto. You may consider that you are a utility provider but in that case you may be better off joining British Gas, they have just announced
healthy profits.

I am sure BMW would like more people to be able to afford its products but it concentrates its business efforts on those who can.

As I have said so many times before, we are not politicians or social workers.

We should deal with what we have and get on with it. That is what happens in other commercial enterprises, so why should we be different?

On another matter, the round table on pension reform reported in Money Marketing ignored the elephant in the room.

There were oblique references but the logical step was not addressed. Nest is an unexploded bomb for employers and IFAs will find themselves in a bomb disposal role.

Your panellists seem to think this will take the form of a controlled explosion but if you are going to do a good job for your client - the employer - you will disable it entirely.

Ros Altmann and others all concur that Nest is a misselling scandal waiting to happen. Employers will be disbarred from discouraging their employees but IFAs face no such restrictions.

Just as I did for stake - holder, I will be advising the firms for which I provide advice how to wriggle free of these imposts - should they so wish.

I will be receiving reasonable fees for my trouble as well as the sincere gratitude of those whom I have advised
