UK signs tax information exchange agreement with Belize
The UK has signed a tax information exchange agreement with Belize.
The agreement will allow the sharing of tax-related information to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development standards.
In yesterday’s Budget Chancellor Alistair Darling announced that the UK was close to signing agreements with three offshore jurisdictions, Dominica, Grenada and Belize, the latter being home to Tory deputy chairman and donor Lord Ashcroft.
Treasury Financial Secretary Right Hon Stephen Timms MP says: “Information exchange is a vital tool in ensuring that governments resource for the essential public services on which we all depend. I very much welcome the fact that Belize has joined the growing number of jurisdictions making good on their commitments to apply high standards of transparency and exchange of information in tax matters.”
