Waterson to face no charges after alleged assault

Conservative Shadow pensions minister Nigel Waterson will face no charges after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his teenage children last month.

In a statement released today Waterson said it was "a relief but no surprise" the police had decided not to take further action adding that he had "done nothing wrong and assaulted no-one".

The MP for Eastbourne said he and his family had been victims of "heavy-handed policing" and "gross media intrusion" which were now the subject of official complaints to the Metropolitan Police and to the Press Complaints Commission.

Waterson was detained by police in Bromley, Kent, just before midnight on Sunday January 27, 2008. Waterson is believed to have been held overnight and released on bail the following morning.
