Sesame to launch 18-month IFA school

Sesame Bankhall Group says The IFA School, which it planned to open in the summer, will now launch next year.

Executive chairman Ivan Martin made the announcement at the network’s symposium in London this afternoon.

He said: “We promised to launch a programme that would help identify, train and nurture the next generation of IFAs. We are announcing the launch of Sesame Bankhall Group’s IFA school, with the aim of doing just that.”

He added: “New people are the life-blood of any profession and at a time when overall adviser numbers are falling, the need to train and nurture a new generation of IFAs is more important than ever.”

The pilot phase will see 15 trainee advisers go through an 18-month programme which will include investments, mortgages and general insurance permissions.

The programme aims for students to be able to take on basic protection advice cases within six months and by the end of the course be trained to QCF level four.

The IFA School is being delivered in partnership with IFA firm The Chester Partnership and is the delayed delivery of a pledge made in March.

Chester Partnership director Steve Riddiough says: “Our experience of the support currently available in the market is that it is either focused purely on helping existing advisers to achieve the RDR exam deadline, or it covers bits of the advisers role in a disjointed way.

“The IFA School for the first time brings all the constituent parts together in a joined up programme.”

The first batch of trainees will include people new to the profession as well as some with experience in financial services.

Sesame say it plans to develop the school so significant numbers of new advisers can be recruited and trained in the future.

Martin said: “We will give people the opportunity to become not just advisers of the future, but the entrepreneurs and IFA business owners of the future.”
