Sesame Bankhall Group director Keith Gilmour leaves

Sesame Bankhall Group business development director Keith Gilmour has left the firm after only joining in November last year, Money Marketing can reveal.

Gilmour joined Sesame Bankhall from Positive Solutions, where he was marketing director, as part of last year’s senior management restructure which also saw George Higginson join from Intrinsic as chief operating officer. He was charged with developing the group’s brands and promoting its products to members.

Sesame has hired former strategic recruitment director at Intrinsic Financial Services David Kafetz as head of sales. He joins later this month.

Kafetz will report to managing director, distribution, Nick Kelly. Kafetz’s appointment follows the arrival of former business development director at Aegon Jon Dear, who joined earlier this year as head of advisory services. He reports to Higginson.

  • In my whole 5 yrs of being an AR with Sesame - I dont know if ANY Business Development that they do - its frankly a case of join and get on with it - there is NO business development going on.

  • It appears with the above two comments that there was no decision to be made as to the 'future' of the Group Business Development Director - perhaps Sesame will take heed of the comments from their AR's

  • I'm a Sesame member too and have never heard of this chap but I had very positive support to develop my business from Hayley Stansfield. Hopefully she'll get the job!

  • There is plenty of talent about at Sesame, however by the time it came into play, as in they started listening, it was far too late and we left the Network last year.. the fact that the first four posters are anonymous... would it not be better to let them know who you are..? .... you are paying enough for the privilege... :-)

  • Don't worry's been fed back.

    Whether anything is taken onboard though, who knows. From the attitude I've received from some of their staff, I doubt it.

    What Sesame seems to want are businesses that start trading with around 5 advisers, and that generate sufficient business without any business development support.

    They justify their fees in writing by reiterating what wonderful support they provide...but when you ask for it all you get is a script from an outdated manual.

    Not quite what some of us were sold on though.

  • That's a shame.. it looks as though nothing has changed..

    .....we gave constructive feedback at exit as funnily enough Network charges were about tenth on the list of reasons to go... :-)

  • We moved from the old Bankhall to Paradigm 3 years ago. When I called to tell the Bankhall director, he offered to price match Paradigm! I asked how he can do this when we were looking at alternatives and he said"it is a competitive market which we react to when needed.....
    Needless to say that only re-inforced our decision to leave.
    No regrets at all.

  • I would suggest that those of you who dont feel Sesame offer development support pro-actively ask for it.
    I am not a business owner however have seen it in action and there is quality and quantity there. You need to understand that if you want a business the size of Sesame to be ramming development down your throats, many of your peer group would undoubtably say "we dont need that" and even more would be unhappy at the likely increase in corresponding fees.
    If you are an AR rather than Directly Authorized, you need your Network to survive and like any business including yours, this can only be achieved by a careful balance of charges against services provided. Too many IFA businesses are now struggling because they have historically provided too many services to their clients for too little obvious remuneration and in light of RDR and CAR don't know how to reverse the process.
    If you need support from your Network, or support service company, you first have to ask.
