Prudential has appointed former Aviva financial control director Nicolaos Nicandrou as its chief financial officer and group board director.

Nicandrou, also former Norwich Union Life finance director and board member, will succeed Tidjane Thiam, who will become group chief executive on October 1, 2009.

Nicandrou says: “I am delighted to be joining Prudential and look forward to working with Tidjane. Prudential is ideally placed in terms of its unique geographic exposure, capital strength and leadership capability, to continue its outperformance over the cycle."

Prudential group chief executive Mark Tucker says: “I am pleased to welcome Nic Nicandrou to the group. His technical depth and experience combined with the quality of his leadership makes him the ideal person to succeed Tidjane.”

A starting date for Nicandrou is yet to be confirmed.
