Henderson SRI team set to leave the business
Henderson’s sustainable & responsible investment team of six members are set to leave, with their funds passed to other managers at the firm.
The group currently manages a range of four funds, the Henderson global care growth, Henderson global care managed, Henderson global care UK income fund and Henderson industries of the future fund.
The funds are currently managed by George Latham and Tim Dieppe. They are set to leave at the end of the year. Other research analysts affected include Seb Beloe,
My-Linh Ngo, Bridget Boulle and Hyewon Kong.
The three global funds are set to be managed by the global equity team and the Henderson global care UK income is set to be managed by the value and income team.
A Henderson spokeswoman says: “Members of the SRI team at Henderson have been provisionally identified as at risk of redundancy as Henderson has decided no longer to have a separate team to manage SRI funds. The team is currently exploring a range of options and remains in conversation with Henderson in this regard. In the meantime, George Latham, head of SRI funds and Tim Dieppe, SRI fund manager will remain in place at Henderson until the end of the year.”

This is a very worrying devleopment and sends completely the wrong message out about ethical & sri investment.
Established advisers in the field will tend towards seleciting investments with firms with clearly established ethical investing policy, developed as a result of collaborative work with their own in-house research teams. Evidence suggests that this leads not only to better long term performance but to funds which truly follow a positive and engagement approach as well as excluding those companies of greatest concern to investors.
My concern is that the Henderson funds will not now get the on-going due diligence that they deserve and become sidelined. Hendersons have established a substantial place in the SRI community and have significant SRI funds under management - I shall be looking to see what their plans for the future are.
