Darling, Turner and King hauled in front of Treasury select committee

Leah Milner
Alistair Darling, Lord Adair Turner and Mervyn King have been called to give evidence on the banking crisis at the Treasury select committee in a fortnight.

The Chancellor, FSA chairman and Bank of England governor will be grilled by MPs on Monday 3 November and the committee will also announce the details of the rest of its enquiry into the banking crisis.

During November the committee will hold hearings on the performance and actions of the nationalised banks Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley; fair value accounting and accounting standards and their role in the current financial crisis; and incentive structures and remuneration policies within financial institutions and their potential effects on financial stability, both at the institutional and system-wide level.

The Committee has decided not to call listed institutions to give oral evidence due to the current market volatility, but it will call them to give evidence at a later stage and will invite written evidence in the meantime.
