Clydesdale launches in Guernsey

Clydesdale Bank has launched Clydesdale Bank International in Guernsey.
Having recently established an operation in Guernsey and new offices in St Peter Port, Clydesdale has a seven-strong team headed by managing director James Blower.
Blower says: “Although Clydesdale already had a presence in the island, the opening of a stand alone business here signifies our commitment to and confidence in Guernsey.
“Our heritage is strong and we benefit from our AA- credit rating and our parent company AA rating. The success of our first few months has already shown that we are well positioned to take advantage of the many opportunities that exist at this challenging time.
“Our approach to banking is very much relationship-focused and this is certainly central to everything we do.”
The bank is advertising itself as a base for tax-free savings and investments, something that has come under heavy criticism this year.
Speaking at his monthly press conference at Downing Street in February, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: “We must persuade the whole of the world to take action and that will include action against regulatory and tax havens in parts of the world which have escaped the regulatory attention that they need.”
According to Downing Street’s Twitter this morning, Brown visited the Clydesdale Bank headquarters.
