Sir Brian Pitman tipped to back new banking ventures
Former Lloyds chairman and newly appointed senior adviser to the FSA Sir Brian Pitman is thought to be looking at backing new banking ventures.
Pitman, 77, told the Financial Times that “there is a lot of opportunity for new banks to go back to the old-fashioned business model of personal service”.
Pitman is understood to have held talks with a number of parties, including a Panmure Gordon-backed inititiative that plans to target high end retail and business customers.
Last week Pitman was appointed by the FSA as one of a new team of senior advisers on corporate governance to help the regulator with its new significant influence functions regime.
The FSA has received a number of applications for banking licences from the likes of Virgin Money and Tesco.
