Santander to recruit 600 staff following RBS branch acquisition
Santander is to recruit up to 600 additional staff following its £1.65bn deal to acquire 318 RBS branches last month.
The Spanish bank says it has decided to increase its staff numbers to deal with its latest expansion strategy in the UK. It has also dismissed suggestions in the FT saying the bank plans to increase staff numbers by up to 6000 in the coming months
A spokeswoman says: “Santander is currently recruiting up to 600 staff to new roles to meet business growth and to continue improving its service. These roles are in addition to its normal recruitment plans.
“Recent press reports suggesting we are recruiting people above this number is inaccurate. Like any other company, the bank recruits many people each year as normal course of business to meet the requirements of staff turnover.”
Last month, RBS announced it is to cut 3,500 jobs nationwide and is to shut down a dozen processing offices in the wake of the branch sell-off.
