Ricky Okey to leave Santander

Abbey for Intermediaries managing director Ricky Okey is to leave Santander and will be replaced by Alan Matthewson, who will also take over leadership of Santander Private Banking UK.

Matthewson takes over from Okey (pictured) as well as Alvaro Morales, chief executive of Santander Private Banking UK, who is moving to Miami to become chief executive officer of Santander Private Banking International.

It is not yet known where Okey’s next move will be.

Matthewson will continue in his role as director of the bancassurance division prior to taking up his new role, which is subject to FSA approval, on May 1.

Santander UK executive director Antonio Lorenzo says: “This new role has been created as an essential part of Santander’s goal to be the UK’s best commercial bank. Alan has a great track record with Santander’s bancassurance team.

“The Abbey for Intermediaries and private banking functions are vital areas for our growth plans in the UK, and I look forward to working closely with Alan to ensure our success.”

  • Hopping from one disaster to another and calling these moves “career moves” , without ever looking back to see the mess left behind them.

  • Goodbye and good riddance to the biggest waste of space at Abbey. What has he ever done to help his loyal band of mortgage brokers. Cross sold and stabbed us in the back...

  • The UK today is full of business people who move from one group to another before being found out. Perhaps Mr Oakey's ability lies in his ability to move on before being asked to. Looks like he got it wrong this time. I undestand these qualities are in great demand at the FSA.

  • I seem to recall Mr Oakey on the TV following his announcement that he would be launching an income mutiple of nine times salary lending. Shortly before the banking collapse! His earlier stint at John Charcole resulted in it's sale at a nominal price of £1. The FSA will definately be after this one!

  • Why is everyone bashing the guy. He proves u don't need FP1,2, nor three to get a great job, and a fabulous pension scheme to boot, unlike silly IFAs.
