New shadow housing minister appointed

Labour MP Jack Dromey has been appointed shadow housing minister to replace Alison Seabeck.

Former union boss Dromey represents the Birmingham, Erdington seat after his election in May 2010.

At the Labour party conference last month Dromey was an outspoken critic of proposed government changes to planning rules.

The move comes as part of a reshuffle that saw more Labour MPs from the 2010 intake promoted.

Rachel Reeves was promoted from shadow pensions secretary to shadow chief secretary to the Treasury.

While former Treasury Select Committee member Chukka Umunna will shadow business secretary Vince Cable.
