Nationwide may close four mortgage service centres
Nationwide is proposing to close four mortgage service centres and is placing145 staff in consultation.
The building society says it is considering closing its centres in Birmingham, Chester, Doncaster and Newcastle and transferring these services to its two other centres in Glasgow and Northampton.
Nationwide says 145 staff are in consultation - 30 in Birmingham, 35 in Newcastle, 50 in Chester and 30 in Doncaster.
A final decision will be made following a 90 day consultation period which started on February 19.
A Nationwide spokeswoman says operating a smaller number of contact centres will allow the firm to become “more efficient”.
She adds: “There will be no impact on customers’ mortgage applications as a result of these changes, and intermediaries can expect to receive the same high-levels of service.
“It’s too early to talk about redundancies. If the prosal is approved, where possible, affected employees will be offered alternative roles within Nationwide.”
