Martin Currie poaches emerging markets quartet from Swip

Martin Currie has poached four more members of Scottish Widows Investment Partnership’s global emerging markets desk as it continues to build its own capability in the region.

The firm has confirmed the appointments of Andrew Ness, Jeff Casson, Divya Mathur and Mohammed Zaidi. Martin Currie says the additions now complete its emerging markets team after the firm appointed Swip’s Kim Catechis and  Alastair Reynolds to lead the team last month.

All four additions were investment directors for global emerging markets at Swip.

Ness is a portfolio manager of Gem sustainability portfolios, while as a sector analyst he covers stock in the Gem financials sector.

Casson is lead manager of Latin American strategy and backs up Alastair Reynolds in the management of the Gem smaller companies strategy, while as a sector analyst he is responsible for stocks within the telecom and the consumer sectors.

Mathur is lead manager on the Gem core mandates and also covers the energy sector, while Zaidi is the lead manager of the Gem Shariah mandates and co-manages the Gem balanced mandates. Zaidi also covers the industrials and materials sectors as an analyst.

Martin Currie chief executive Willie Watt says: “We have made it clear that we want to build a globally competitive emerging market capability. By first hiring Kim Catechis and Alastair Reynolds and now the rest of their team, we have done just that.“

“Emerging market equities is an increasingly important asset class – but there is a lack of high calibre teams in the marketplace. Over the last 22 years, Kim Catechis has built a first-rate process and team; we are delighted this capability is now housed at Martin Currie.”

  • bad news for SWIP just as UK equities head cockburn announced and after they lose as high a caliber person as Kim Catechis....was not a total shock the rest of her team would follow. Expect a new input to swip as maybe some Cockburns crew comes in
