St James’s Place hires ex-Maia’s Chris Ralph as CIO

Former Maia Capital partner Chris Ralph has been appointed to the newly created position of chief investment officer at wealth manager St James’s Place.

The firm has also appointed Vivian Bazalgette and Peter Dunscombe to the investment committee, joining at the beginning of 2010.

Ralph previously worked in the fund of funds business for Fidelity International before founding asset management boutique Maia Capital, a joint venture with Ignis Asset Management.

Bazalgette joins from Prudential where he was chief investment officer following the firm’s takeover of M&G in 1999.

Dunscombe spent the last decade as head of pension investments at the BBC Pension Trust.

The investment committee, chaired by Sir Mark Weinberg and advised by independent investment consultants Stamford Associates are responsible for the selection, monitoring and, if necessary, the replacement of fund managers used by St. James’s Place.

Group Business Development Director David Lamb says: “We do not employ any investment managers ourselves but offer our clients a wide range of funds, contracting out the responsibility for investment to independent investment managers, selected and monitored by our Investment Committee.

“The new appointments we have announced today further strengthen our existing team ensuring our highly successful approach will continue to stay ahead of the market.”
