Sarah Arkle to step down as Threadneedle CIO
Threadneedle has appointed L&G Investment Management head of UK equities Mark Burgess as its new chief investment officer
Burgess joins the firm in the first quarter of 2011 and will replace current CIO Sarah Arkle, who is retiring next year to become Threadneedle vice-chairman.
Arkle was one of Threadneedle’s founding members in 1994 and beame chief investment officer in 2000. She joined Allied Dunbar Asset Management in 1983, which was one of the two businesses merged to form Threadneedle.
Alex Lyle will become lead manager on the funds he currently co-manages with Arkle - equity and bond, global equity and global equity and bond - with no
changes to the investment process.
Prior to joining L&G Investment Management, Burgess worked for 12 years at Deutsche Asset Management, where he worked through Morgan Grenfell Asset Management to be Deutsche’s managing director, head of UK equities and balanced products.
Threadneedle chairman Simon Davies says: “Sarah Arkle has done a splendid job in her 10 years as CIO. She has steered our investment team from the early days to build the multi-award winning team of over 140 people that we have today and she has presided over 10 years of stellar investment performance.
“I am also happy to say that we will continue to benefit from Sarah’s experience and wisdom, as she has agreed to take on the role of vice chairman, working with us on high level client relationships and business development, and playing an ambassadorial role for the company. The appointment of such a high calibre industry figure as Mark Burgess means that we are well positioned to build on Sarah’s impressive legacy.”
