OPM and Octopus in branding clash
OPM Fund Management is taking legal advice regarding potential brand conflict after Octopus billed its new discretionary portfolio management service as OPM in marketing literature.
Last week, Octopus launched Octopus Portfolio Manager for advisers, abbreviating the name to OPM in a news release and on the firm’s website but spelling out the name in full in the brochure.
OPM Fund Management specialises in management of multi-manager funds. Octopus says that the new service will be managed by its multi-manager team.
An OPM Fund Management spokesman says: “At the moment we are taking advice, as in this space it has the potential to cause confusion.”
Octopus says it has only used the OPM acronym for ease and that the term is not being adopted as a name for the product.
