IMA revises protected/guaranteed sector

The Investment Management Association has changed the name of the “protected/guaranteed” sector to the “protected” sector and revised its definition.

Following a review by the IMA performance category review committee funds in the new sector will be flagged under two headings - “capital protection at maturity” and “protection/floor funds” from December 1.

Protected funds will include those other than money market funds, which aim to provide a return of a set amount of capital back to the investor (either explicitly protected or via an investment strategy highly  likely to achieve this objective) plus the potential for some investment  return.

The newly named sector is  home to 50 funds.
