Ian Shipway to join Chamberlain's Succession

Ian Shipway is to reunite with former Thinc boss Simon Chamberlain as financial planning director of IFA consolidation vehicle Succession.

Until this week Shipway was managing director of Bluefin Wealth Management’s strategic business unit.

The move, reported in this week’s issue of Money Marketing, sees Shipway join the Succession’s management board and will lead the development team which guides practice principals and advisers through the firm’s transition programme.

In 1990 Shipway formed and built up independent advisory business Hayward Chambers Financial Planning before selling it to Thinc, which became Bluefin, in 2003.

In an interview with Money Marketing in 2007, Chamberlain cited Shipway, his manager at Merchant Investors and former president of the Institute of Financial Planning, as the most important influence on his career.  He said: “He taught me to strive for a level of honesty with clients and colleagues.”

Succession is targeting £7bn in funds under management within five years and announced four additional partner firms this week bringing its total to almost £1.5bn in under six months.

Chamberlain says: “Ian is the industry’s leading authority on financial planning.  His outstanding reputation of managing relationships underpins Succession’s commitment to working closely with distribution partners to grow and develop their businesses.”
