Honister forms adviser consultation board

Honister Capital has formed an adviser consultation board to improve communications between its board and its adviser firms.

Twenty eight advisers put themselves forward for the job, and nine were elected.

The board is made up of Honister advisers Chris Poole, Andrew Bennett and Gary Powling, Burns Anderson advisers Mike Ferguson, Jonathan Bell and Vivian Slattery and Sage advisers Leigh Tarleton, Craig Bonsor and Mike Taylor.

Honister Capital chairman Mike Tennant says: “The board is an innovation and an important one because it is difficult for non-executives who don’t work in the adviser world full-time to understand what is really going on at the coal face.

“We need to have that connection with advisers so that non-executives can interact with advisers also. Then, we can have a much more strategic, meaningful conversation at board level.”

Tennant says a strong relationship between the board and advisers is key but adds: “I’m not sure we did that in The Money Portal terribly well. It was a very fluid situation. That is a crazy way of operating an adviser business.”

The board has also been halved to five members, compared to TMP’s 10 members. Tennant says: “They are all highly professional people. It is a very different setup today from what it was before.”

Honister Capital chief Executive Mark Lund says: “We are going to have lively discussions and debate, and we genuinely look forward to working in partnership going forward. There will be more and better consultation in the future.”
