FTSE passes 5,500

The FTSE 100 has risen past 5,500 as hope returned that a deal could be made to solve the eurozone debt crisis.
At 9.33, the blue chip index was 0.64 per cent to stand at 5524.05, while the German Dax and the French Cac 40 were up 1 and 0.4 per cent respectively.
In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index ended the day 3.8 per cent up, while in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.9 per cent.
