FTSE makes early gains

The FTSE 100 broke through the 5,000 barrier this morning, having risen more than 1 per cent in early trades.
At 8.51am the index stood at 5000.08, a rise of 1.2 per cent. The French Cac 40 and the German Dax also rose 1.6 and 0.9 per cent respectively.
The news follows a small recovery in Asian markets overnight.
Yesterday the FTSE 100 fell through the 5,000 barrier for the second time in three trading days as concerns of the eurozone crisis spreading were added to by increasing fears of conflict between North and South Korea.
Kazakhmys and Lloyds Banking Group both made early gains with both firm’s share prices jumping more than 4 per cent.
