Baring's Pascal calls for emerging specialist sector

Baring Asset Management marketing director Ian Pascal is calling for the Investment Management Association to introduce an emerging markets specialist sector.
Pascal says with numerous offshore funds flooding into the specialist sector, there is scope for breaking it into different segments.
He says: “There are 168 funds in the specialist sector and there are 60 relating to emerging markets funds. That is more than what is in the IMA emerging markets sector. If the IMA does not want to put these funds in the emerging markets or Asia sector, it should look to a specialist offshoot to cater for the funds to make comparison easier.”
The IMA is conducting the biggest review of its fund sectors in a decade amid the impact of Ucits III and the RDR.
