Alliance Trust has announced that chairman Lesley Knox is to retire in April and will be replaced by another female chair, Karin Forseke.

Forseke, deputy chairman of the Financial Services Authority, will join the board of the investment trust in March and take up the non-executive chairman role when Knox steps down.

The chair-elect is a non-executive director of Wallenius Lines and was previously chief executive of Carnegie & Co and the London International Financal Futures and Options Exchange.

Knox welcomed the appointment of Forseke, adding: “She has extensive experience of financial services and this, alongside her international perspective, will be invaluable as we continue to invest across the globe in order to seek value for our shareholders.”

The retirement of Knox was announced last year and was scheduled to take place before the investment trust’s 2012 annual general meeting.
