Barings appoints head of Latin American equities

Baring Asset Management has appointed Michael Simpson as head of Latin American equities.
Simpson joins from Wells Capital Management in San Francisco where he managed the Latin American exposure of several GEMs portfolios. Prior to this, he held a number of Latin American equity analysis positions, most recently with Seven Global Research in New York. He will be taking over management of the Baring Latin American fund.
Simpson reports to Tim Scholefield, head of equities at Barings.
Scholefield says: “Latin America is at the heart of the emerging markets story, and we believe that the region has strong fundamentals in place to deliver superior returns over the long-term. Improving growth and inflation numbers and strong domestic demand will provide support for Latin American equities into 2012 and beyond.
