FTSE 100 rises in early trades

The FTSE 100 has risen by more than 1 per cent in early trades in reaction to the better-than-expected start to the U.S. corporate earnings season.

At 10.41am, the blue-chip rose by 1.1 per cent to stand at 5675.77, with Barclays making the biggest gain after seeing its shares rise almost 5 per cent.

Across Europe, the French Cac 40 and the German Dax also made positive ground wiith both indexes up over 2 per cent.

In the US, the Dow Jones closed the day up 0.3 per cent, while in Asia, the Nikkei was up 0.4 per cent at close and the Hong Kong Hang Seng was up 0.8 per cent.
