Securities certificate available to schools
The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment’s certificate will be available to students at secondary schools and colleges from September.
The qualification, an introduction to securities and investment, has two units covering bonds, derivatives and financial services regulation and a research-based project com- ponent.
The certificate has received a Ucas tariff, which allocates points to qualifications used for entry to higher education.
Students achieving the highest grade, a pass with distinction, will be able to claim 60 tariff points, which is equivalent to a grade A at AS level.
CISI managing director Ruth Martin says: “In this increasingly competitive environment, schools and colleges are keen to equip their students with the best and most relevant qualifications available.
“We are extremely pleased to have achieved this tariff recognition from Ucas for our certificate for introduction to securities and investment, which will go towards enhancing the applications to university from those students who successfully complete this examination.”
Ucas acting chief executive Virginia Isaac says: “The CISI’s inclusion in the Ucas Tariff is recognition of the sector’s commitment to ensuring that higher education is accessible to a wide range of individuals. We look forward to working closely with them in the future.”
