Big rise in universities signing up for CII's careers roadshows
The Chartered Insurance Institute has seen a 67 per cent increase in interest from universities wanting to take part in its graduate roadshow compared with last year.
In 2008/09, the CII took its roadshow to 30 universities but has a tour of 50 universities on its 2009/10 schedule. The roadshows aim to improve students’ perception of the insurance and financial services sectors.
The CII started its 2009/10 roadshow in September and is touring top UK universities such as Oxford, Bristol, Warwick and City, with presentations from insurance and financial planning practitioners. Presentations offer students an overview of the sector, outline key skills required by employers and provide information on internships and graduate schemes direct from company representatives.
Campus visits have been held at 15 universities, with a further 30 to take place before the end of February 2010.
Relationship manager (education) Caspar Bartington says: “It is a real eye-opener for people at university who want to know what financial services are all about. We have seen a 50 per cent uplift in numbers on last year in terms of university interest and student attendees, partly due to the credit crunch but I would like to think that the work we have done to raise the profile of financial planning and insurance has gone some way as well. There is not a single insurer or financial planner in the top 100 companies so this kind of activity helps spread the word.”
