Sesame Bankhall Group champions Aifa's RDR qualification

Sesame Bankhall Group will offer and promote the Association of Independent Financial Advisers’ new alternative RDR qualification to its members.

The new QCF level five qualification, the Diploma in Investment Planning, will be developed in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and BPP Learning Media.

The qualification will require advisers to work through a series of scenario-based case studies designed to assess their ability to develop and present suitable recommendations for clients.

Sesame Bankhall Group executive chairman Ivan Martin says: “We have consistently argued for the introduction of alternative assessments as a common sense solution that recognises the wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that exists within our profession.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this new qualification to our member firms and would like to thank Aifa, CIOBS and BPP for their hard work. Alongside traditional examinations it means that advisers have a choice of routes to achieving the RDR benchmark.

“The fact that this route exceeds the QCF Level 4 requirement also dispels any concerns that alternative forms of assessment could constitute a ’dumbing down’ of professional standards. We have always said that it would be a travesty to force experienced and competent advisers out of the industry, particularly at a time when consumers need more advice, not less. It is great news that common sense solutions are being developed to help advisers meet the new RDR benchmark.”

Aifa director general Chris Cummings adds: “I would like to thank Sesame Bankhall Group, who have been instrumental in helping to develop this cost effective solution and have already committed to offering this new alternative assessment route to its members.”

  • I love Big Bird, his comments are so funny. The whole problem with his street is the top people who run it, telling others to be of a certain standard when they are not. to think once upon a time there were 8,000 in the organisation and now it is falling away even with takeovers to barely 3000. these people just walk away quietly, perhaps one day someone will shout up a bit just how bad Big Bird and his sidekick are.

  • To anonymous: It is a shame that you cannot see the value of an alternative assessment for many experienced advisers. We will continue to work to support all advisers who want to achieve the new higher standards - Steve Young

PS - I already have QCF level 4
