LibDem Burstow in charge of long-term care reform

Liberal Democrat MP for Sutton and Cheam Paul Burstow is to take responsibility for long-term care reform.
Burstow, who is MP for Sutton and Cheam, has been appointed minister for care services. His responsibilities will also include adult social care, personal health budgets, end of life care, mental health and long-term conditions, including cancer and diabetes.
He was first elected as MP for Sutton and Cheam at the 1997 election and has been shadow spokesman for health, shadow minister for London and, most recently, shadow chief whip. He served on the House of Commons health select committee from 2005 onwards.
Burstow says: “Urgent reform of the social care system is at the top of our agenda. The current system is unsustainable, it cannot go on as it is. Our first step to reform is to establish an independent commission.”
