IFP wants support for planning week

The Institute of Financial Planning is calling on advisers, financial planners, product providers and the FSA to support its third national Financial Planning Week.

The IFP aims to use the week, which will run from November 22 to 28, to help UK consumers improve their “financial fitness”.

By focusing attention on the key issues of consumer education and engagement during the week, the IFP says it hopes to raise awareness about the importance of sound financial planning.

It will also highlight how people can benefit from taking professional advice.

The campaign is based on a dedicated website, www.financialplanningweek.org.uk and a national PR campaign.

IFP chief executive Nick Cann says Financial Planning Week is one of the most important initiatives within financial services.

He says: “For years, there has been lots of talk around educating consumers about money but rarely do we see this converted into effective action. If ever there is a time when people need to take steps to plan their finances, it is now. It is all well and good that the RDR is focusing more on products and regulation as a means of ultimately improving the quality of advice to consumers but we need to do much more than this as a profession if we are to really inspire people into taking action.”
