FSA appoints Aifa's Amanda Davidson to board

Aifa deputy chair and Baigrie Davies director Amanda Davidson has been appointed to the FSA board as a non-executive director.

Davidson (pictured) has been a director of Baigrie Davies since 2005 and deputy chair of Aifa since 2006.

Her previous career includes directorship of Holden Meehan where she was involved in the sale of the business to Bradford & Bingley in
2003 and she was also a founding director of Chase De Vere.

Her regulatory experience includes serving on the board of the Personal Investment Authority from 1999 to 2000.

She was a member of the FSA’s regulatory decisions committee from 2001 to 2006 and she is a current member of the FSA’s financial capability steering group.

Cambridge University professor of management Dame Sandra Dawson has also been appointed and the pair will take up their posts on May 1 2010.

The Chancellor Alistair Darling says: “I am very pleased to announce the appointment of these new members to the FSA board. Their skills, knowledge and background will make a valuable contribution to the work of the FSA.”

FSA chairman Adair Turner adds: “I am very pleased to welcome Sandra and Amanda to the FSA board.

“Sandra’s varied experience of management education, financial services and public service, and Amanda’s strong background in independent financial advice and regulation will bring vital extra dimensions and balance to the board’s work.”

  • Well, that's a bit better!

Amanda has both experience and common sense.

However, she's going to have to be incredibly strong to try to reign in some of the stupidity, greed and excess that has dominated the recent activities of the FSA.

The U turns, the never ending 'initiatives', the excessive salary packages, the regulatory failures, the excessive recruitment, the spiralling fees, etc, etc.

    That's just for starters!

Good luck Amanda, we'll all be watching and listening with breath fully bated.

  • Didn't see her do much for IFAs at AIFA so I can't see she'll do anything for us now.

Hopefully with the gvt change over she'll get the sack along with others and see some savings in exhorbitant and unjustfied F-Pack fees.

  • I am delighted to see that experience can count towards "skills, knowledge and background" of the financial sector. No mention of exams though!

  • Still none of Lord Turner's 'mavericks' then? Just more 'yes' people? More window dressing? Where have we seen the word 'balance' being used of late?

  • Do not know what planet Gerry Cooper is on. Amanda has obviously jumped over the fence again!!! Once a hard woman with the PIA and then used this experience to get inside AIFA, She will now be able to use experienced gained with AIFA to find out about IFAS to really give them a kicking.
