Former IFA Defence Union chief Owen setting up as claim chaser

Former IFA Defence Union chairman Evan Owen is moving into claim management.

The Ministry of Justice, which regulates the claim management sector, authorised Owen last week. He says he was prompted to enter the sector after getting requests for help from IFAs on claims they wanted to bring on behalf of new clients.

He says: “I had an increasing number of IFAs asking me to deal with complaints they were coming across when they took on new clients, where banks and other firms had done a really terrible job.

“There are very few IFAs who hold the relevant Ministry of Justice authorisation to carry out claim management activities, so to begin to even look at helping the IFAs who contacted me, I needed to apply for authorisation.”

Owen says he has not set up a claim management company and will operate as an individual for the time being.

Owen was chairman of the IFA Defence Union between 2004 and 2009, before leaving to concentrate on his work as a regulatory consultant.

  • That sums up why Mr Owen only received limited support form IFAs

  • Evan will be accused of switching sides but this is not the case. Most IFA’s are not anti regulation they are anti abuse of power and Evan has been one of the most forthright campaigners in this area and we have much to thank him for. No one should accept unethical conduct or misselling and I’m sure Evan will operate this new venture with the highest of ethical standards. He has a huge depth of knowledge and he with be a formidable force to reckon with – Unlike many Mickey Mouse claims handlers Evan will offer a professional and ethical service.

    Good luck Evan. .

  • I agree with Simon Mansell. Evan is a principled and formidable opponent of stupidity and dishonnesty. I suspect the ambulances will be chasing after him.
