CII to launch virtual classrooms

The Chartered Insurance Institute is piloting a programme of virtual classrooms to support advisers studying for the diploma in regulated financial planning.

The courses, which have been put together in association with financial services training and recruitment firm Verridian, are delivered online and made up of seven one-hour weekly learning sessions.

Classes are limited to a maximum of 15 students per course. The first six weeks cover the learning outcomes from the R01 syllabus with week seven focusing on exam technique or problem areas.

Advisers can also take a mock exam if they wish to then have it reviewed by the trainer.

The first virtual classroom will cover unit R01: financial services, regulation and ethics, and is due to be launched in October.

CII head of corporate development Steve Aspinall says: “These virtual classrooms have been developed specifically to provide students with an engaging learning programme to optimise their chances of passing the exam. The trainer also sets homework each week to make sure the students can make the most of their weekly virtual classroom sessions.”

Verridian head of financial services Marcus Bowsher says: “Compared to the old methods of webinars and conference calls these virtual classrooms really are new generation.

“Our virtual classrooms are like a face to face seminar or tutorial. They provide full interactivity but can be delivered remotely via standard internet technology, and because students can study from their own computer or laptop, it reduces the time and money lost to travel.”

The virtual classrooms are currently only available to CII corporate customers as part of the pilot. Advisers can book the courses through the Money Marketing Academy for £185 and receive a year’s free Academy membership.
